Who I am

I’m Ivan Nielsen and I am The Handi Scandi

I qualified and worked as a carpenter in Scandinavia (Denmark) and then furthered my education with a combined degree in construction/engineering, project management and architecture.

In 2001 my life was turned upside down – I fell in love with an Aussie and suddenly Down Under looked like a good place to call home!

In Denmark I was working as project manager, but I really missed being on the tools, so when I moved here in 2003 I started subcontracting as a ‘chippy’.  Once I got my Builders Licence and became a Registered Building Practitioner I started my own business doing domestic building and renovations.

I imagine you’re thinking… “So why are you a Handyman now?”

Approaching 50, I decided to scale back my business to give me a better quality of life - with more flexibility and time to spend out in the bush, by a camp fire, with my Aussie wife who lured me here all those years ago.

I’ve always enjoyed being on the tools and Handyman work gives me lots of variety doing the bits I like best -  making things fit, making things work, tricky problem solving, small and finicky jobs that make a difference in people’s daily living (like fixing that annoying door that won’t close properly or window that won’t open).

I ditched the bits of the job I don’t like - the constant heavy lifting, logistical planning and mountains of paperwork involved with large scale jobs (I am NOT an office person!!!).

So in summary….

When you hire me, you get someone with a broad range of skills and years of experience on the tools.

I also come with an assortment of tools to tackle all kinds of weird and wonderful jobs and most importantly a helpful attitude.
